A beautiful clock face still needs compatible working parts. The most useful questions are often dimensional: how thick is the finished base, how do the hands attach, and how much room is available for their sweep? Use this Resin Wale guide to prepare measurements before comparing a replacement movement or a new clock kit.
Measure the finished mounting area
Record the total thickness around the centre hole, including any coating, acrylic layer or spacer. Measure the hole separately. Compare those figures with the movement's stated shaft and threaded mounting dimensions. Do not use the base's overall diameter as a substitute for these measurements.
Check the hand connection
Hour, minute and optional second hands must suit the movement's fittings. Similar-looking sets can have different connections. Check the supplier's compatibility information or ask support to compare the exact models. Avoid forcing a hand onto a fitting or enlarging a hole without appropriate guidance.
Check reach, weight and clearance
A longer hand is not automatically suitable for a larger clock if the movement cannot drive it. Confirm the supported hand specification. Lay the hands on a paper version of the dial to judge readability, then check vertical clearance between hands and raised decorations. They must not rub or collide during rotation.
Test before the final installation
Follow the supplier's assembly and battery instructions. Check the movement on a supported surface before mounting the finished clock. Investigate contact, misalignment or loose fittings rather than repeatedly bending components. If replacing a failed part, keep the original dimensions and model details so you can compare the replacement accurately.
Your project checklist
- Record thickness, centre-hole size and shaft requirements.
- Match hand fittings and supported hand size.
- Check horizontal sweep and vertical separation.
- Keep model details for later maintenance.
Frequently asked questions
Can I mix hands and machines from different sets?
Only when the fittings and operating specifications are confirmed compatible.
Why do clock hands stop at one position?
Contact or alignment may be involved, but inspect the full assembly and follow the movement maker's troubleshooting guidance.
